Journal Excerpt: Potato House
(Part of my practice is stream of conscious journaling, combined with sketches and notes.)
So Saturday the Underground was a disaster. Strikes, maintenance, etc. Walked to Michael Werner: Sigmar Polke. I loved the potato house, the drawings were a range of funny to tragic. How unself-conscious he was in jotting down ideas. I wonder if he knew it would be published/ sold/ collected one day. How horrible. To have that hanging over your private thinking. What do you do to keep your privacy after you die? Who makes those decisions? God help me if anyone were to go digging through my journals. In any event, Michael Werner – I walked right past it. No plate glass, no big sign. Then I went to Massimo de Carlo? The lunar paintings by the Chinese artist. Does he even like doing them? Looks like paint by number, no evidence of just loving the paint/ painterly qualities. No “Yum, look what happens!“.
I guess I’m too subjective. But that’s revealing, that’s what you want, so do it in your own work --> the joy of trying, embracing, exploring, testing.
