After a sleepless night, the Yankee artist heads into the studio, spurred on by the free yoga class on campus. Feeling much better, she experiments with cutting her canvas to ribbons, hoping that the act will yield a fruitful outcome. Perhaps she should consider making diptychs instead.

A month later, on a visit to Kenwood House, on the northern edge of Hampstead Heath in London, the Yankee artist encounters the work of English painter William Larkin (1585-1619). The sumptuous portrait of Lady Diana Cecil features a dress almost cut to ribbons.
